Participating on the Good Samaritan Committee provides the opportunity to facilitate scholarships for youth and various learning opportunities and celebrations in the congregation. We meet January - June periodically and as needed virtually and in person. This committee is comprised of six elected members and one Council representative.
The Good Samaritan Committee administers the Good Samaritan Fund, which provides an opportunity for friends and members of First Lutheran Church to make gifts for the purpose of education, evangelism, missions, and social welfare. The committee provides monetary gifts to individuals and organizations that request financial help and meet one of the four preceding criteria.
No experience is necessary of our elected members. Access to current and historic Good Samaritan Committee documents via Google Drive is available to all members of the committee.
In the Summer of 2021 the Good Samaritan High School Senior Celebration was held outside at Thompson Park in spite of the pandemic. It was the first year that laundry bags full of gifts donated by congregation members were given to each high school senior. Every year the high school senior celebration brings together so many people from the congregation to honor and recognize the seniors with scholarships, gifts, love, and support.
