We meet the 1st Wednesday of the month at 11am-2pm and on the 4th Wednesday at 5-8pm downstairs in Room 6. Please join us for fellowship, food, and card making fun!

Deeply rooted in First Lutheran’s mission of hospitality, Touch of Craft strives to bring tangibility to God’s love for all of our church’s members and visitors. Whether through our handcrafted decor for church events or with our Greeting Card Ministry, we bring out the smiles and increase the joy!

Hospitality through Decoration

Where a modicum of talent is concerned, we work to create a welcoming environment when people arrive and gather for functions and events. Through our thoughtfully handcrafted decorations and sometimes outsourced decor, we assemble and accessorize centerpieces and table ornamentation in both a traditional Swedish style, as well as in true American “melting pot” fashion, but always Lutheran to the core.

To date, TOC has assisted with funeral receptions, bulletin boards, the Senior Advent Luncheon, Easter Breakfast, and special dinners (most notably, the 2022 Smorgasbord, pictured). If you’re planning an event at the church and need decor, with or without flair, we’re your Huckleberry!

“Thank you so very much for all your hard work in making the Senior Advent Luncheon a success! The decorations were beautiful and really added to the joy of the event!"

Greeting Card Ministry

And where zero skill or talent are concerned, our main act of service is to prepare and mail handmade cards to FLC church members. We make, scribe, stamp, and send out all of the cards, beautifully inscribed from “Your Faithful Friends at First.” Those of us born with the creative gene design the card styles for each year. For those of us who were spared the creative gene but were blessed with a heart that wants to help, we create all of our cards in stations. Starting with the color matching station, and after moving through the industrial paper cutter station, the pieces are then folded, scored, and sent to the gluing station. Once all of the components are secured in place, they migrate to the stamping station where carefully chosen rubber stamps and colored inks are applied to the newly assembled cards. The final 2 stations involve embossing and stamping the envelopes with our return address, and scribing.

TOC’s Card Ministry is currently equipped to send out the following cards: Happy Birthday (for members over 18), Thank You, Thinking of You, Get Well, and With Sympathy. We are provided a monthly list of birthdays by the church, but we look to the congregation for information of personal events. If you have a card request for us, you can submit it via the forms and yellow Card Request Box in the Narthex.

“Thank you for all the dedicated time and crafting to keep FLC members cared for.”
—Sandy Moore

Elves in the Basement

Lovingly nicknamed both “The FLW Elves” and “The Church Basement Ladies,” Touch of Craft meets downstairs in Room 6 on the 1st and 4th Wednesdays of each month. The 1st Wednesday group meets from 11am-2pm and the 4th Wednesday group meets from 5pm-8pm. We do this in order to accommodate the availability of our members as well as meet the growing need for cards. There is always a well balanced spread of food (potluck style), an abundance of laughs (also potluck style), and wonderful fellowship to be shared. So come sit a spell and try your hand at card making! The invitation is always open. We are more than happy to train you to use any of our fabulous card making toys and tricks!

From Our Members

“If you pray for it and do the work to build it, they will come. After crafting solo during all of COVID, I sent out an SOS in the Weekend Reminder in May 2022. I asked if there was interest in creating a crafting group, and I was delighted to be joined by four other women at our 1st meeting that June. Our group is now 14+ strong!”
—Jenn Samson

“Living in the chaos of moving doesn’t give me time or space for crafting. TOC gives me that space and much needed fellowship.”
—Linda Tveten
